Papaya enzyme or Petromalt Hairball Remedy for cats should be given routinely to your chinchilla, especially if you live in a humid area. High humidity seems to cause looser hair in the fur base and a chinchilla’s self-grooming can cause hair bezoars which can cause intestinal obstruction. Papaya enzyme or Petromalt can ease the bezoar through to intestine. Fresh pineapple juice can break up the bezoar if it forms. This is also a time when you want to get very friendly with your local vet.
