I thought I would send an update on all of the new rescues needing rehoming
this week since I know that some of you are interested.
- We are still expecting 13 chins (from 4 different parties) to be
surrendered to California Chins Rescue this weekend.
- Debbie Heiser of Chins To Go picked up the abandoned group of chins in
Modesto today. We were told by the landlord that there were about 18 chins,
which turned out to be 16. Sadly, one of the chins died in route to
Sacramento. It is reported that the chins are in sad condition. Neglected,
furchewed, and underweight. The cages were filthy. All the chins had to
eat was some dirty hay in the bottom of the cages. When Debbie offered dust
baths, the chins didn't know what to do, so we assume that the chins had
never been properly cared for. It appears that the previous owners had been
breeding the chins, since a number of cages were found and many of the chins
are mutation colors.
- We received a new request today to rehome another group of 12 chinchillas.
Once again, this seems to be a hobby breeder that has decided to get out of
the business. At least this time, we are working with a very nice,
seemingly responsible owner/breeder who seems to really care about his
chins. He is willing to give us sometime to work out the details which
makes our lives much easier. These chins will probably also go to the
Heisers at Chins To Go since our foster homes just don't have enough room to
take in that many chins right now.
We have never had a week quite like this one in which we were requested to
rehome, what we thought was, a total of 43 chinchillas. The current total
is expected to be 40 chinchillas. 28 immediately and the other 12 sometime
in the next 2-4 weeks.
Once again, we cannot thank Debbie and Kelly Heiser enough for all of their
generous help!
- Lori
